Biography

Bomi Kim (b.1998, Seoul, South Korea) is a multi-media artist based in Seoul and London. She graduated fron Goldsmiths and is the winner of the Freelands Painting Prize 2022. Her paintings depict a world of passion, indulgence and pathos. Water is a prominent theme in her work – it informs both subject and style. Paint is applied in sensuous flowing movement; her figures emerge from and are submerged in surreal water features. Her works are like bowls containing the depth of creativity that consist of poems, sentences and images. Water distorts, kills and gives life; it can become a fountain that overcomes gravity; the amniotic fluid that surrounds the fetus.

It is said that human relations can flow like water. However, one day it all comes to an end. Kim’s work embodies an ethereal sense of relaxation with an underlying eeriness and surreality. Her poetry elucidates the small universe that gives rise to her creative imagination.
